Kendal Calling is an award-winnng music & arts festival, held annually at Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District, Cumbria in the North West of England. It has grown from a two-day, 900 capacity event in 2006 to a 25,000 capacity 4-day music festival.
The theme this year was ‘Into the Future’, with sections of the festival decorated to depict a dystopian future in which all non-conformist, unsponsored music, art and creativity has been outlawed. We really wanted to go above and beyond with this video and deliver something truly special unlike anything they’d seen before, playing on this theme.
To do that, we decided to hire in some beautiful anamorphic lenses (P+S Technik Evolutions) to really give the video a cinematic, indie feel. The lenses are known for having these characteristics, and produce a truly stunning, unpolished look.
Above is the final video that we produced for them. We also produced a series of daily recap videos at the end of each day for the organisers to share on Facebook. These videos were viewed over 198,000 times, with 3373 reactions on Facebook as of 29th August 2018.
After each day of the festival, we produced these short recap videos which were shared on the Kendal Calling socials.
“The team at McGill productions are true professionals. Hardworking, efficient and imaginative. They not only captured the festival ethos perfectly, they also produced high-quality content edited in an extremely timely and efficient manner.” In fact, the aftermovie they created was deemed “cinematically the best after-movie that has been produced” in the 13 years Kendal Calling has been going by both festivals directors.”
