How McGill Productions Helped 3-1-5 Health Club Launch SWEAT

How McGill Productions Helped 3-1-5 Health Club Launch SWEAT
Placeholder hero — swap with a SWEAT campaign still.

3-1-5 Health Club approached McGill Productions in 2022 with a clear challenge: launch its new SWEAT studio with content that could capture the intensity, energy, and atmosphere of the experience. 3-1-5 is an award-winning health club in Lancaster, and the two teams were already working together on recurring content to support membership growth and brand awareness. They needed a video production partner who could turn a new boutique HIIT offer into a campaign that felt immersive, social-first, and strong enough to attract new members.

The Brief

The goal was simple: introduce SWEAT as a new kind of training experience for the local market. The studio was positioned as the first of its kind in the area, offering inclusive, coach-led, heart-rate-based HIIT classes with a nightclub-like feel aimed at millennials and Gen Z who were already active and wanted to push themselves further.

This was not just about filming people exercising. The campaign needed to show what the class actually felt like, from the intensity of the training to the atmosphere inside the room. That meant building a film that could communicate the sensory experience of SWEAT while still functioning as a practical launch asset for 3-1-5's wider membership marketing.

Our Approach

McGill Productions started in pre-production by getting involved early in SWEAT's development. After an initial discovery meeting, the team visited the site while it was still under construction, developed multiple creative routes, and built a storyboard around the final concept once it had been refined with the client.

What made the project distinct was the need to understand the experience from the inside. Because immersion was central to the brand, McGill Productions took part in a closed-door mock class before the official launch. That gave the team a clearer sense of what members would hear, feel, and see during a session, which then fed directly into the way the final film was built. The cast was made up of five existing gym members, supported by two of the club's personal trainers, which helped keep the campaign grounded in the real 3-1-5 community.

Production took place over two days using a RED Scarlet-W camera, filmed in 5K and at 48fps to preserve both colour and flexibility in the edit. One day focused on a staged class, giving the team control over lighting, talent, and the space itself. The second day was filmed during National Fitness Day, when 3-1-5 opened SWEAT taster sessions to the public for the first time. That gave the campaign a more authentic layer, showing the class with real participants in action.

In post-production, McGill Productions used the storyboard as the foundation for the edit and built the film around sensory details taken from the class experience itself. The opening heartbeat, which members hear as they wait for class to begin, was used as a recurring audio device through the film, helping tie the visuals back to the real SWEAT experience. A rhythm-led music track, in-house editing, sound mix, and grade completed the final piece.

What We Delivered

  • 1 feature launch film for SWEAT
  • 5 social clips optimised for social media platforms
  • 61 campaign photos shot and edited in-house

The Result

The final campaign gave 3-1-5 Health Club a stronger way to launch SWEAT, translating the energy of the studio into a film and supporting asset suite that could be used to build awareness and attract new members. By grounding the creative in the real class experience, McGill Productions created launch content that felt more immersive and more specific than a standard gym promo.

The work also formed part of a wider retainer relationship between McGill Productions and 3-1-5 Health Club. SWEAT was not a one-off brief — the relationship continued for a further three years, with McGill producing regular content for the brand across an ongoing schedule of work. That matters, because it shows the launch campaign sat within a longer-term content partnership rather than a single isolated production.

The campaign also had visible launch use beyond the case study page itself, including 3-1-5's SWEAT page and a Facebook release for the studio.
