How McGill Productions Helped Brother Launch the A-Series Across Europe
Brother A-Series Get Creative launch film opening frame.

Brother approached McGill Productions in 2023 with a clear challenge: create a launch film for the A-Series sewing machine range that could show the value of four different machines in one clear, engaging campaign. The range was designed to support users from beginners through to more advanced sewers, so the brief needed to show progression, individuality, and creativity rather than just machine features. They needed a video production partner who could bring the full range together in one people-led film and make it feel modern, energetic, and evergreen.

The Brief

The goal was simple: position the A-Series as a range that could support different types of makers at different stages of their sewing journey. Brother wanted to move beyond a standard product demonstration and create a campaign that showed the machines as tools for creativity, self-expression, and progression.

The brief was to create a dynamic promotional film that could launch the revamped range while keeping the story rooted in people. The campaign needed to feel upbeat, inclusive, and design-led, while still making the differences within the range easy to understand.

Our Approach

McGill Productions started in pre-production by getting hands-on with the machines themselves. Brother provided spec sheets and a machine for the team to work with directly, which meant the creative could be shaped around real functionality rather than surface-level product styling.

What made the project distinct was the narrative approach used to sell a technical range. The idea began as a sewing class, then evolved into a more contemporary story built around an online sewing community. That shift gave the film a stronger sense of energy and individuality, while creating room to show four different sewing identities across the range: The Starter, The Upcycler, The Creative, and The Designer.

To support that concept, McGill Productions cast a diverse group of talent and transformed a studio at The Photocove in Manchester into four distinct spaces with set designer Elizabeth Melinek. Production took place over two days with a team of sixteen, using RED Scarlet-W cameras to capture the machines and talent with clarity and colour. Close-up feature shots were handled with a slider and probe lens, while the direction on set focused on keeping the pace brisk enough to push the narrative and character progression forward.

In post-production, McGill Productions built the edit around pace, making sure each section carried either the story, the product message, or both. Voiceover, sound work, colour, visual effects, subtitles, and final amendments were used to shape the finished piece into a polished range launch film that felt lively without losing clarity.

What We Delivered

  • 1 promotional launch film for Brother's A-Series sewing machine range
  • 5 language versions: English, Dutch, French, German, and Italian
  • 173 campaign photos

The Result

The final film gave Brother a stronger way to launch the A-Series, turning a multi-product technical brief into a more human, accessible campaign. By building the film around four distinct sewing identities, McGill Productions created a clearer and more engaging way to show how the range could support different users as their skills and creative ambitions developed.

The campaign was also adapted into five language versions and used on Brother's A-Series product page, giving the film practical value across multiple European markets. Alongside the video, McGill Productions delivered 173 campaign photos to support the wider launch.

A-Series also formed part of McGill Productions' wider ongoing relationship with Brother. It sat within an active run of work for the brand in 2023 and was followed by further productions afterwards, showing that the relationship continued well beyond a single brief.
